Music Programming is the predisposed schedule or plan for your music radio station.
What is a station 'Format'?
A stations format or 'programming format' refers to the genre in which the content of the radio show must comply to. For example, Radio 1 is a contemporary top 40 show, and therefore is must not deter from either of these categories in order to satisfy the target audience.
Please give an example of 2 radio stations, the format and an example of 2 tracks.
NME Radio - Alternative Rock - Trani, Kings of leon - Young Love, Mystery Jets
Gold Radio - Classic Hits - My Way, Frank Sinatra - Rollercoaster, Buddy Holly
What is an 'ABC Playlist'?
An ABC Playlist is a method of organisation applied by many radio stations to vary the content played, whilst also pleasing the target audience throughout the show. It follows a very basic structure: Songs placed on the 'A' playlist are played most frequently, 'B' playlist less frequently and 'C' playlist least frequently.
Explain how the choice of music would affect profits to a commercial corperation.
If a Radio station chooses to play music that does not relate to the target audience, then they will not attract viewers. If the station loses viewers, they will begin to lose money. Funding will decrease, and premium rates for advertising will begin to drop, eventually causing the business to fail.
