10. Blizzard - The Motto - Announce on song of the week, upcoming rap artist, twist on one of the most famous songs of the year - finish strong, fade out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96FeUymvRRw

I believe my music sequence is appropriate to a niche audience of hip-hop fans as it develops mood and genre. It begins with relaxed classic songs and develops tempo, switching between new music and well established music. The use of segues combines songs of a similar genre and feel, whilst announcements are made on songs that may change the pace or genre of the playlist. I began with a popular classic, followed with an unknown song, then with a modern classic, repeat... I believe this sort of structure maintains the audience's attention most efficiently.

MUSIC RADIO FORMATS POSTER

Music Based Programming
Classical

Classic FM

Classical music is a music radio format. However, the definition of what attributes a piece as 'classical' remains vague. The main element that categorizes a piece as 'classical' is that it is performed from musical notation as part of a score, normally with 2 or more singers/instrumentalists, which sometimes compose an orchestra. The term 'classic' was given after the period of 1750-1820, in which huge early developments in composition  form and style were made; often recognized as 'the birth of music'.

What is 'Music Programming'?

Music Programming is the predisposed schedule or plan for your music radio station.

What is a station 'Format'?

A stations format or 'programming format' refers to the genre in which the content of the radio show must comply to. For example, Radio 1 is a contemporary top 40 show, and therefore is must not deter from either of these categories in order to satisfy the target audience.

Please give an example of 2 radio stations, the format and an example of 2 tracks.

NME Radio - Alternative Rock - Trani, Kings of leon - Young Love, Mystery Jets
Gold Radio - Classic Hits - My Way, Frank Sinatra - Rollercoaster, Buddy Holly

What is an 'ABC Playlist'?

An ABC Playlist is a method of organisation applied by many radio stations to vary the content played, whilst also pleasing the target audience throughout the show. It follows a very basic structure: Songs placed on the 'A' playlist are played most frequently, 'B' playlist less frequently and 'C' playlist least frequently.

Explain how the choice of music would affect profits to a commercial corperation.

If a Radio station chooses to play music that does not relate to the target audience, then they will not attract viewers. If the station loses viewers, they will begin to lose money. Funding will decrease, and premium rates for advertising will begin to drop, eventually causing the business to fail.
